THE DO-NOTHING
Every morning I sit
and do nothing but
sip coffee and talk to the morning bids,
they don't ask many questions
but simply chatter away with chirp and song,
they don’t judge my personality
or why I sit idling my mornings away,
do they know all of us will have someone at the door
one day, closing out our contract?
so we sit to forget the inevitable.
But my birds are happy to perch
on fire-escapes or fly up to rooftops,
I also watch them do nothing
we are experts at that
one action
or inaction,
I do sometimes wonder
if they are secretly taking notes
carefully documenting each day
with charts, stats, little photos, logs, and maps
to bring down South
reporting back on all do-nothings.
