REMEMBERING
I remember possibility
all dressed up in one word
that opened to a world
of voices, of hope
each handshake given
each embrace counted
for winnings
for another door to open,
I remember tomorrow
dressed in old rags
she had been rich
she had been hip
now she sat on a bench
by a statue at the center of some small town
where no one knew her,
she liked that
no gods or nature to bother with
no possibility of work,
I remember daydreams
how they twirled and twisted
round spring and autumn
catching early snow in their cups
writing poetry of otherness
writing words that stung and pleased and broke
hearts and doors,
I remember sadness
all in black
keen blue eyes
spoke in riddles
decipher one and world’s end
decipher two your heart is trapped
you say goodbye she clips your wings
so you fall
so you fail
always promising new things
no one has seen.
