REMEMBER
For kim johnson
Will you remember my voice
a year from now? No and no
trees will cast their shadows
birds will chirp away
but you will look to others for solace
while a leaf gets picked up by an unexpected breeze,
There will be other voices
other warmth, another’s stare,
and my name will be meaningless
as it is at this moment
it won’t even earn the right
as an entry in some page you’d keep for memory,
Trees will flee their shadow for an hour
birds will rest from their song, sleeping, dreaming
whatever dream nature gives,
as you now sleep at this moment somewhere in our city
and I remember when you would softly
wrap yourself with me for rest, for what was known
and treasured...
