London poem

THINGS CARRIED IN TRAVEL

Walking about town
after cabs, planes, and The Underground

looking around
London rising above diverted crowds,

my pockets jingling with random things
but I don’t care
though I can’t remember what I put in there

pound coins
Cadbury bar
random pens
Oyster Card
folded poem
old postcard
melted gum

broken pen spilling ink on my journal
covering up all my thoughts for today
but I let my keys wish for that far away home

which I forget for a moment.
