Chronology & Make-Believe

RELATIONAL CHRONOLOGY OF MAKE-BELIEVE
for christina

‘I miss you’
in the beginning was sunlight
as you drove away from me at the laundrette

‘the understanding should remain’
passages of rumours, rumours of war, of peace
falling from pages, from rooftops

‘are you religious?’
account for all words, tally of tears
speak but don’t say anything

‘you can call me darling’
smiles and lies wrapped in songs
songs were traps set by the muse on a lonely pass

‘you chose the wrong girl to like’
waves are the gods other death
“thought hides in a poem like nutrition in fruit” said Valery

but what can hide in words creating worlds?
a phrase can unleash burning bushes
a smirk can bring about scattered bullets

‘there was never any us’
darkness is what was before seven days of creation
darkness love’s other guise for poems, for winter

‘where did you go?’
loops and angles distinct in drawings
on the heart, a scar from falling stars, slashed face from a kiss

‘I feel so ashamed of my actions’
breaths pass from fish to fish
swimming in time and history, we all ascend sometimes

‘there’s no possibility for us as friends’
echos come and return, we repeat ourselves

not with precision or understanding but with sadness...
