I tried to tell you about the nature of things

as sunlight scraped by my book of knowledge

you turned to the ways of stars, maps of oceans and depths

charting some unknowing, letting go

hearing birdsongs in winter

as sunlight and shadows hit your face,

Each verse disappeared from my lips

graphs and essence crumbled in my hands

your eyes remained closed

sunlight, shadow, everything,

I stopped, was I unclear?

in this wish to teach about self and being

But you wanted to smile, to run and laugh

to throw out the emptiness of knowing

for one minute of freedom...
