Poem for Owen

This is my newest poem and another of my dedications to the 4 poet/thinkers I spend my time with at Caffe Trieste in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. They are inspirations and have made me a better writer, glad they adopted me...

AMONG METAPHORS
for owen dunkle

walking along cathedrals of sand
buried metaphors and their secrets hide

among lonely white surf
preface to darker waves,

perhaps on that ocean beach
your practiced hand can mimic silence

discovering quiet songs
from peculiar stars
that crest above haunted sea-gulls,

whom do you seek here
as you wade and grab mystery words

do you introduce yourself to the sea every time?
tuning your pen to rhyme
transposed in this serenity you dream…
